Will the doctor up-my dose or change pain meds?
I have bad back pain and my doctor prescribe Tramadol 50mg 1-2 tabs 3 time daily but it don’t work! I’ve even tried taking 3 at once at 150mg but still no relief! My question is; If i tell my doctor the tramadol doesn’t work, what will he be most likely to do, up my tramadol dosage or change me to a stronger pain med?
He may increase it to 2 tabs 4x a day (the max. dose), but I think it wouldn’t help much more than what you’re on. You may want to give it a shot (I mean after talking with him…not on your own). The next tier of pain medicine would be hydrocodone. Drs can be very difficult about this, so it may be hard to convince him you need it. Tramadol is relatively weak, so it’s not really demanding to ask for a stronger pain medication. Be persistent and be sure you tell him just exactly how this pain is affecting your life–like if it’s interfering with activities, or work, or school. If you have a dreadful time with your doctor, you may want to look for a pain specialist. Some are morons, of course, but there are good ones that can give you a variety of different meds in addition to the opiods, like muscle relaxants or antidepressants, which change the way your body feels pain. (That’s how my pain dr explained it to me, anyhow.)

HOW TO USE: Take this drug by mouth exactly as prescribed for the full treatment period. Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, hot flashes, Weight Gain or headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: abnormal vaginal bleeding or irregular periods, vaginal discharge, groin pain, vision changes. Unlikely but report promptly: vomiting, rash. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: dark urine, yellowing eyes and skin, easy bruising, persistent sore throat, fever, mental or mood changes, trouble breathing, unusual tiredness, leg pain or swelling, dizziness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

When should you see a doctor for the flu?
So I have just come down with a terrible flu (worst I’ve ever had). I have a sore throat, cough, fever, headache, aches, nausea and basically feel extremely bad. I guess my question is, if it were you, would you go to the doctor incase it is swine flu or just treat it like a normal flu and hope you get better in a few days?
I took some cold and flu tablets and feel better. I read somewhere that if you respond to cold & flu tabs then you wouldn’t have swine flu. Thanks if you can help.
As far as I know, the “Swine Flu” is merely a rather nasty version of plain old flu.
I personally would go see a doctor if I felt that my breathing was being compromised. That is, if it becomes very difficult to breath. There are a few circumstances that I’d also consider. I would see a doctor if I had ANY flu if i was over 65, under 5, had any deficiency of my immune system, or a history of asthma or other respiratory disorder.
Otherwise, continue with the over the counter medicines, get plenty of rest, and drink lots of liquids.
