How is the situation with the stock market in the United States affect me personally?
I live in Australia, work full time, paying a car loan, etc. I'm sure that situation in the U.S. will have far-reaching and devastating consequences for people around the world. How specifically would this affect my situation?
Quite many goods imported from the U.S. only because prices will most likely increase. I live in the U.S., and even affected me. The media is very good to exaggerate these things, and what is sounds like total devistation going to happen …. when in fact is. If you have money in the stock market is likely to affect you, and you may lose money. If you have loans with variable interest rates, which may affect but doubtfull because you are in Australia. Other than that, probably going to be fine, and believe it or not, most people in the U.S. are still doing fine, we're just in tighter budgets, and be very prudent with our money. The media makes it look horrible, but show only the extremes, and the average person. Affected people are here home loans from banks that have not Gaven the loan in the first (greedy greedy banks!) And people with a lot of money invested in the stock market. Some people with 401K plans have lost money from it, but that is dependent on how the money was reversed, and by whom. Inflation has been rising for years here, but has not yet reached serious levels …… and hopefully not!

What works best for America, deregulated free market capitalism or regulated capitalism?
I’ve heard arguments that American capitalism works best in a deregulated free market state. But then I’ve heard arguments that deregulated capitalism leads to risk taking practices by Wall Street that leads to recessions like this one. What works best for America deregulation from the government or a regulator watchdog from the government to protect the majority of American’s financial interests?
Both have their benefits. I’ll just list the pros and cons.
Deregulated free market capitalism.
Pros: Allows for rapid economic expansion.
Deeply satisfies people during boom times by following their emotions.
Cons: Allows for existence of boom and bust phenomenon.
Deeply discourages people during busts by following their emotions.
Basically, deregulation allows the markets to be controlled by human emotion, so if you’re going to go by this form of capitalism, be prepared for wild times of both prosperity and depression.
Regulated capitalism.
Pros: Keeps economic expansion and contraction phases from losing control.
Prevents people from having to suffer extreme economic hardships.
Cons: Restrains economic growth from reaching desirable potential.
Inhibits innovation and creativity.
Overall, regulation allows for general stability and comfort, but can crowd out the private sector and put a lid on rapid technological advancement and progress.
What you see as best for America depends on whether you prefer stability and comfort, or being allowed to do basically whatever your heart desires, but having to deal with the consequences, however severe they may be. You choose.
