I took a dose of magnesium citrate last night. How long until BM’s become normal?
Sorry if TMI. I was backed up and took magnesium citrate last night. BM began in about 5 hrs. A couple times during the night I had to get up and go to the bathroom. Just wondering how long until I start passing normal stools or until the magnesium citrate is done causing elimation?
It all depends. I have taken it before and returned to normal after a couple of hours of it starting to work. But the last time I was so constipated that it was about 36 hours before it started to become normal.

how long does it take Magnesium Citrate to work?
I have had bad constipation(or so I think). My lower abdomen has been hurting bad. It even hurts to walk. Is this normal symptoms of constipation? I bought some magnesium citrate and took some about an hour ago. I haven’t seen any results yet. I drank half a bottle (5oz) and 16.9 oz of water. How long does it take to work? What results should I get from this? How much water do I need to drink?
Symptoms of constipation can include hard, compacted stools that are difficult or painful to pass, the urge to move the bowels (even though you just had a movement), or no bowel movement over three days, bloating/swelling, abdominal cramping, feeling sluggish, nausea, vomiting and weight loss.
Magnesium citrate usually produces bowel movement with in 30 minutes – 6 hours. It works best on an empty stomach and should be followed by 8 ounces of water or juice.
