What does that mean if a person is on life support?
Does that mean that he/she is dead? My friend is crying because a guy she used to work with is in th hospital & on life support. & how long if you’re on life support before you actually die? & if you ARE already dead if you’re on life support, why is there such thing? Why can’t they just let you die? & not suffer anymore.
This man looked very skinny & was walking wobbly & couldn’t keep his balance. I know he drinks a lot & has liver problems. & also he’s a heavy smoker. Should we say farewell & RIP already? He’s a very mean-spirited guy, but I will miss him.
Life support means that the person could not sustain life on his own without the help of one or more machine. It does not necessarily mean that he is already dead; though someone CAN be brain dead but kept alive on life support.
Sometimes the hospital does not mean to NOT let someone die in peace. Many times they think they can save someone with temporary help and it turns out that by taking him off the machine it would kill him.
An example was that my father was able to breathe on his own but he was so ill, they put in a tube and machine to breathe for him in order to let his body rest. They didn’t want him to work so hard to breathe. This worked and then he got better and the tube and machine was removed. Months later when he was much iller and it was at the end of his life, he said no machines because he knew he would never come off of them. There is a time and place for everything.

The liver is the largest glandular organ in the body and is responsible for the healthy functions of just about every other organ. Practically, everything we eat and inhale goes through the liver for purification. The liver also has other important functions and it is therefore necessary to make sure that we are taking care of our liver. In a healthy adult, the liver weighs about 3 lbs., about 6 inches thick and about 3.5 inches long.
What Does the Liver Do?
The liver basically works as the detoxification center in your body but performs other important functions as well.
- Blood flows into the liver. The liver works to filter the blood of toxins and impurities before it is sent to the other organs. Where do toxins come from? It comes from the foods we eat (processed and fast food), the medications we take, alcohol intake, the air we breathe and other environmental pollutants.
- The liver also serves the digestive system by producing bile (stored in the gall bladder) for the effectual breaking down of fats.
- The liver is also the body’s storehouse. Many vitamins and minerals, especially iron, are stored in the liver and released to the body as and when required. It also stores immunologic cells for the immune system.
- The liver produces energy for the body through the conversion of stored glycogen to glucose.
- The body’s metabolism largely takes place through the liver. The liver metabolizes lipids, carbohydrates and proteins.
- Liver functions also involve producing blood clotting substances to help in the coagulation of blood.
Are You Overtaxing Your Liver?
A healthy liver is able to filter about 540 gallons of blood a day, but when the liver is overtaxed by too much alcohol consumption, smoking, saturated fats, environmental pollution or too many foods that contain chemicals, the liver is not able to filter all the blood that passes through it.

The standard American diet can also put stress on the liver. Many fast foods contain a lot of saturated fats and processed foods contain chemicals and preservatives. Non-organic vegetables and fruits contain pesticides. The liver can become laden with fat and is unable to function efficiently.
The liver cannot cope with the excess stress and can become overwhelmed. As a result, toxins can build up in the body. The high levels of toxins in the body can lead to the poor function of other organs in the body. Fatigue, acne, headaches, age spots, excessive itching, poor immune health may be associated with poor liver functions.
Considering the liver performs so many important functions, taking proper care of it should be a priority!
Ways to Care for Your Liver
There are several ways to take care of your liver. Adopt a healthy lifestyle—avoid excessive intake of saturated fats, alcohol and quit smoking. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables every day. Cut down on animal fats, caffeine, sugars and fried foods. In addition to a healthy diet, several herbs and nutrients, in well-formulated liver vitamins, are popularly known and used to optimize the functions of the liver.
- Milk Thistle. This comes from the daisy family. It is known to have liver protective and liver regenerating properties. It aids in detoxification and also helps to ease mild digestive disorders.

My step dad has stage 4 liver cancer and probably is going to last long.?
He has an 11 year old daughter with a crazy mother. He has no life insurance but he and my mother have a house that is paid for and his truck is paid for as well. Will they be entitled to any of this since he will no longer be paying child support?

This is more a legal question than medical one but I’ll give you a general rule. If the mother is not married to him she will probably not be entitled to any property.You need to have a will drawn up. You can get one at Staples & he can fill in his wishes. If your mother is married to him that is the best way to pass property too (transfer the car to your mom), and make sure she is listed on the deed for the house..The crazy mother is not entitled to anything as long as she’s not currently his wife. After someone dies & there is no longer child support involved, the other mother can apply for money from the government from your step dad’s social security.You should not have to deal with anything after but get the paperwork done now before he becomes too ill to sign the will & car transfer (he can sell the car to her for $1.00).You don’t really need a lawyer to do these things, but if you think there will be problems you can always consult one.He can also fill out a Living Will where he declares what medical treatments he wants done too (that form is also at Staples…no, I don’t work for them, but I’ve done these forms for other relatives).
