What is the mg/pound dosage for glucosamine/msm in dogs?
how much for an 80 pound dog?
its for a 12 year old boxer. He`s already getting aspirin daily, but i want to start glucosamine. Any suggestions in addition to or instead of glucosamine and aspirin?
Is this for prevention/maintenance or does your dog already have pain and arthritis?
Because the prevention dose is 500 mg glucosamine for a dog 50 lbs and over. If your dog has pain, that dose can be 1500 mg. Studies show higher amounts of glucosamine than 2000mg give no extra benefits. It needs to be given daily to build up levels in the blood.
Oh- and quality will depend on absorption, since glucosamine is not the best medicine to absorb. A liquid form is the best but most are pills.
Add: Glucosamine with MSM will definately be good. MSM is an anti-inflammatory so it will help with pain like asprin, it depends on his degree whether that alone will be enough. Fish oil is supposed to help arthritis, but it has to be in high amounts. If you go with an NSAID, metacam has the least side effects.

3. Chondroitin: Chondroitin is a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and is a major component of cartilage. It helps to keep cartilage healthy by absorbing fluid into the connective tissue. Chondroitin is also believed to help block enzymes that break down cartilage and to aid in the production of building blocks for the body to produce new cartilage. As with Glucosamine, there has been little in the way of scientific evidence to show that Chondroitin will yield measurable results when taken as a supplement.
4. Nutrient Based Joint Supplements: This new class of joint supplements for humans is based on the idea of encouraging the body to produce its own healthy joint tissue by providing a balance of valuable nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. I don’t want to keep on taking pain killers & actually sometimes they don’t help, so I bought vitamins at the store with glucosamine, chondroitin & MSM which was cheaper than the drink (but my prescription for pain killers is free since I have no copayment). Do you know if these vitamins will actually help my arthritis or am I just wasting my money?
I was asking about the weather because sometimes I hear people say they can tell it’s going to rain because their bones ache, but I myself don’t notice that, I hurt everyday. I just was wondering why people say it if it isn’t true.
