Is Ginko biloba good for blood flow increase to the head?
Apparently, yes.
There are many studies on the go at the moment into the effectiveness or otherwise of ginkgo biloba as it has been credited for doing many things. The evidence is overwhelming about the positive mental effects of consistent daily walking. The challenge is fitting enough time in the day to achieve sufficient levels of activity, treadmill desks offer a solution. Studies have already shown that walking can increase memory by as much as 50% and in as little as 6 months, that it can prevent the onset or severity of dementia and Alzheimer’s which affects more than 5 million Americans, yet we constantly search for a pill to provide a cure.

Walking has been shown to have other effects on the brain as well. Studies have shown that walking also reduces stress, boosts mood, prevents mild depression and is more effective than the most widely prescribed medications for this condition. Walking throughout the day releases levels of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine, neurotransmitters that affect mood. These are the same brain chemicals whose levels are targeted by antidepressant medications Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.
Treadmill desks offer employees an opportunity to enhance their physical and mental health, boost their productivity, and the ability to leave work feeling energized and empowered, a fact that no drug or supplement can ever claim.

Does ginko biloba actually work? What is it good for?
Ginkgo biloba is an extract from the beautiful Asian tree that has its leaves coloured red from the one side and green from the other.
Its common uses are for
- dementia and age-related memory disorders in general
- vertiginous syndrome
- improvement of memory
- diseases related with blood circulation, like heavy legs ecc.
The meccanism of action of this extract is not completely elucidated, as in many herbal extracts. It is believed that ginkgolides, a pharmacological category of substances that are found only in this extract,are improving the blood circulation because they have an action antagonistic to the platelet activating factor(PAF) so they are decreasing its viscosity.
Plus it contains flavonoid glycosides, flavonols, diterpenes ecc.Their use(why they are good for you, as you are asking) and the meccanism of action, is more known than the one of the ginkgolides and you can find it in detail by clicking the link given below.
The standard dosage form is 120-240 mgr. daily, in 3 divided doses, if not recommended differently by the physician.
Without any intention for cheating, I would like to say that in order to activate the brain cells and benefit our memory, as it has been mentioned by previous answerers,it is supposed to pass the ematoencefalic barrier(brain-blood barrier).
There is a scientific disagreement on this issue.
The extract, if it is standardised that is a special quality procedure, has a good safety profile, it is tolerated good by most people and regarding the drug – to – drug interactions, they are rare and have been reported some cases with aspirin and ther NSAID, anticoagulant factors or antiplatelet factors, garlic, phosphatidylserine and vitamin E.
