ok im trying to make my high school basketball team. but im kinda like a non chalant person and like i dont really have much or a drive to do things. im lazy i guess. and that kind of reflects on the court. i dont always care if i win or lose and i always dont play with all the energy i have. But when i do, i play alot better, but not for long because i dont have endurance. i really wanna change this attitude. can anyone please just leave me with some stuff to think about so I think losing is the worst thing in the world. leave me with somthing to make me develop a competitive edge. 10 points most helpful
Im in my countrys U15 team, what i do is i think positive dont doubt yourself no ones better than you they just work harder. before a game i always tell myself that i know i can outplay and out think my opponent either if its driving to the hole or setting p plays.i myself am a pointgaurd and go by 1 moto “it’s not about how big you are, its about how big you can play the game”. just practice work on that jumpshot ,drive ordribble because you will gain confidence in yourself and you will play with energy. just look at kobe? hes got confidence and look at where its got him. just remember that your the one who controls how you play if you wanna get somewhere you need to focus and take control.

Visualization: An Athlete’s Competitive Edge
Athletes spend a great deal of time training their bodies to improve performance. Countless hours are often spent lifting weights, improving fitness, practicing routines, and perfecting technique. In many cases, physical differences between competitors can be slight. What every athlete looks for, regardless of whether the competition is Olympic caliber or the enthusiasm of a weekend warrior, is something that will give them a competitive edge.
An effective way to gain a competitive advantage is through the use of mental sports performance techniques such as visualization. Visualization is the process of creating an experience in your mind that feels so real it transforms your body. The mind and body are intertwined, so much so that it is possible to produce profound physical reactions through just the process of utilizing your imagination. Visualization is the process of using the mind to imagine what we want to be or what we want to have.
Visualization allows us to tap into the power of the body’s subconscious states and use them in a way that transcends physicality to produce a desired result. Just as exercise trains our muscles to effectively memorize a routine until it becomes second nature, visualization is a way of exercising the mind so that you can easily draw on positive thought and make such thought readily available when performing difficult tasks.
Through visualization techniques we can harness our thoughts in a way that allows us imagine success to a degree that it becomes the most likely outcome. Visualization is not only effective at preparing an athlete mentally to be their best, it is also very useful at confronting specific shortcomings in their performance and provides a way for them to improve.
Many athletes use visualization as a way to prepare themselves for the stress of competition. Through the use of visualization, the individual changes their body state in such a way that it allows them to remain calm. During a competition of any sort, adrenaline flows and it can often be hard to control your emotions. There are many sports where being relaxed and controlling emotion is important. Golf is a great example. For a golfer to be performing at peak levels, the body must be as relaxed as possible. A golfer could successfully use visualization before and during a round to relax and keep from becoming too tense or too excited.
Another way to successfully use visualization is to see your great performance and your desired result in your mind’s eye. This requires someone who is visualizing to imagine with great clarity the exact movements and actions that the body is taking and how that leads to the desired result. A tennis player, for example, may visualize his approach to the ball and the proper stroke that drives the ball down the line and past his opponent for the winning point. This approach is helpful because it creates the feeling of success, while simultaneously mentally training the body to perform at its best.
In all sports, visualization is a powerful tool that many professional and amateur athletes use successfully to improve performance and gain a competitive edge. Like any other skill, visualization must be practiced in order for it to be most effective. To achieve peak performance, the mind, just like the body, must be trained. If you seek to gain a competitive edge, visualization and other mental sports performance techniques should be part of your training regime.

Children in European Nations, India, China and other developing countries are catching up and in some respects surpassed Americans in the biological sciences which is a major growth point in the future of science. Companies want the brightest minds to help them.
Isn’t intelligent design just a sidetrack in science? It has no scientific basis. It in no way helps you to find a cure for AIDS or cancer or sequence the genomes. It has no relevance to science, so why even talk about it in a science class?
Yes, it hurts us. I heard a biology professor from Michigan just the other day that said fewer and fewer of the students entering his introductory course are ready for it. So many have rejected biological sciences for religious reasons that he needs to send them to remedial courses before they can participate in his class.
Sadly, religious creationism is just one of the anti-scientific philosophies infecting America.
Much of the blame can be placed on growing fundamentalism, which gives people a simplified set of dogmatic beliefs to help them navigate a complex world. But a great deal of blame falls on our media.
Look at the vaccination debate. A doctor who develops a vaccine against a nasty, often lethal childhood diarrhea disease (Offit, rotavirus), who saved thousands of lives is vilified on Larry King and Oprah while a trash-mouth Playboy model (Jenny McCarthy) is held up as some sort of crusading hero. Why? Because the media wants a controversy.
The media focuses on the fringe nutjobs because that is where the controversy and ratings are. So if 1000 scientists get together and agree that transitional fossils prove naturalistic evolution beyond a reasonable doubt, and one born again guy with a PhD stands in the back of the room disagreeing, the media will ALL cluster around that one guy. As a result, the non-scientific public gets the impression that there is a debate where none actually exists.
Rational, sensible, grounded people don’t make good television. So Kent Hovind and Duane Gish and Sarah Palin get the press and the big speaking fees from Fundamenalist organizations, and the uninformed public is left with the impression that science is “just another religion”.
And so we watch as the supercollider is built in Switzerland instead of Texas. We watch other countries build fusion reactors. We watch other countries grab the high ground in energy sciences, biological sciences, environmental sciences, etc. We watch our children lose to children from other countries when applying to top colleges and educational programs.
And America suffers.
